PARENTS PLEASE NOTE: For the safety of students and staff outside the school building, please be aware of the following new law:
NEW LAW REGARDING CELL PHONES IN SCHOOL ZONES:
Effective January 1, 2010 the State of Illinois signed into law Senate Bill 72. No Cell Phones in a School Zone Law
Another law that took effect on January 1st, 2010 is Senate Bill 72 titled "Vehicular Phone Use in School Zones". According to the new law:

"A person, regardless of age, may not use a wireless telephone at any time while operating a motor vehicle on a roadway in a school speed zone"

For safety reasons, the Willow Springs Police monitor the School Zone on a daily basis for speeders and may be watching for cell phone use as well.

BIRTHDAY TREATS AND OUR SCHOOL’S WELLNESS POLICY: To celebrate students’ birthdays some parents have been sending the large size cupcakes for their children to share with their classmates. Many children lick the frosting off or eat only a portion of the cupcake and throw the rest away. It is sad to see the waste of the cupcakes that cost so much. Due to the waste and our wellness policy (page 28 of the handbook/calendar) may we suggest mini cupcakes be purchased or any of the following suggestions: pencils, fun erasers, individual packages of crackers, bite size granola bars, fruit roll-ups, gummy fruit snacks, jello/pudding cups, cheese sticks, pretzels, baked chips, etc. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our children healthy.

SCHOOL CLOSING REMINDER: On days when the school will be closed due to weather or any other unforeseen circumstances (power outage, broken pipes, etc) remember our automated call out system will contact you as soon as the decision is made. Please keep us up to date with any phone number change so you won’t be left out.
